Kindergarten Art Portfolios- Harold and the Purple Crayon

This year I am trying out the idea of using "Art Portfolios" to store the student work throughout the year.  It is my hope that this allows me a wide range of choices from the students to put in the District Art Show in May (I really can find their best or favorite one!), keeps the students' work safe, allows all the students' art to come home safely at the end of the year, and allows me to really see the growth and progression of the students' artistic development.  I really hope this idea works out!

For the first day of Art in Kindergarten, we read Harold and the Purple Crayon- a wonderful story about imagination!  Then the Kindergarten students needed to draw a self-portrait (a picture of themselves) in pencil, and then with their favorite color crayon, draw a crayon in their hand and draw pictures of all the things they were excited to learn about and do in Kindergarten.  Let me tell you, they are excited about a LOT of things!

They are a wonderful group of children and I am looking forward to seeing their creativity blossom throughout the year!

*A special thank you to the TeachKidsArt blog for inspiring many of these portfolio ideas.*
