Third Grade Portfolios- Beautiful Oops!

"I love art class!" "This is really fun!" "This is why I love art class- because you can really express yourself!" "Can I have more 'oops' please?" "I need more 'oops'!"   (Heard throughout the art room during the first day of art for Third graders.)

Third graders sure had a lot of fun turning what could had been a disaster into a "Beautiful Oops!"  Some of them continued to make more Oops! Paintings at home. For the first day of art, Third graders heard the story, Beautiful Oops!, which teaches the important lesson that a mistake or accident can be turned into something beautiful.  I am always telling my students, "There are no mistakes in Art, only opportunities for improvement." This story really reaffirmed the concept of not getting upset if when an accident or mistake happens.

To create their very own Beautiful Oops Portfolios, Third Graders "accidently" spilled paint on their portfolios and then had to turn that spill into a picture.  Boy, did they ever love this!  There were even amazing stories they created to go with their pictures!  I just adore the imaginations of children!
